Gaza Solidarity Demo In Tahrir Square Despite Intense Security Siege

Hundreds of demonstrators were able to penetrate the intensified security siege imposed by the Egyptian security authorities from the early morning on Monday and organize a demonstration in Tahrir Square, downtown Cairo.  Demonstrators repeated chants expressing their solidarity with the resistance in Gaza including, “We will sacrifice our souls and blood for Palestine.”

The demonstration was headed by a number of MB MPs including Dr. Mohamed El-Beltagy, Adel Hamed, Ali Fathel-Bab, and Mahmoud Mujahed while thousands of other MB affiliates were prevented from joining by the security apparatus who had encircled the square since 9 a.m. with a large number of central security and secret police men at the entrances and exits of the square in addition to several security leaders on the opposite side of the Tahrir compound.

Security forces prevented any citizen from standing in the square forcing citizens to move towards the Arab League and Tal”at Harb Street.  However, by around 1:30 p.m., hundreds of demonstrators were able to penetrate the security siege and hold the protest in the park facing Tahrir square.
