Muslim Brotherhood’s opinion in a Newsletter 14.10.2009, (The Constitutional Struggle for Voting Rights Continues)
The Egyptian arena is currently witnessing many political and media debates over Egypt’s forthcoming general elections in which the Muslim brotherhood emphasizes the following:

1. The Muslim Brotherhood’s constant decision in which they firmly assert their  running  for the up-coming elections where  the movement will discuss each case running  for general election announcing the movement’s opinion of whether or not to contest the elections

2. Participation in political and social activities to achieve the desired political reform and the ending of the state of emergency, ensuring full independence of the judiciary, sustaining the basic principles of freedom, developing democracy based on political pluralism and implementing the peaceful transfer of power so that the nation is the ultimate source of authority.

The Brotherhood also stresses that the people have the inherent right to choose their own rulers, their deputies and the program which reflects the aspirations and desires through free, fair and transparent elections fully overseen by judges.

3. All citizens have the right to freely engage in socio-political activities as it is obliged to seriously take part in the general election and cast their votes in the ballot box.

The Egyptian citizens suffering of unemployment, low wages, skyrocketing prices, deteriorating health, environmental pollution, education and housing problems are only manifestations of bad governance, including political repression and corruption.

4. Political reform can not be carried out by a single political party but rather national political powers and parties located in the political arena must cooperate, coordinate and communicate in their activities and attitudes. People should have the right to express their views freely, ease their burdens and prevent rigging of elections at the polls through all legal and constitutional methods.
