Thugs Attack Freedom and Justice Party Leader, Steal Car

Freedom and Justice Party leader Dr. Mohamed Beltagy was attacked by gun wielding thugs Friday evening on Ring Road 20 km from Cairo while he was driving to Qalyubeya for Iftar.

The thugs, who pulled him out of his car thrusting him into the street, threatened him with machine guns and drove off stealing his car, his mobile and other possessions and left him on the side of the road. Before driving off, the unruly thugs used abusive and threatening language.

Beltagy filed a complaint to police in Qalyubeya and called on the competent authorities to conduct investigations.

This is not the first attack of its kind on Beltagy where thugs used by remnants of the former regime threatened him informing him that he and other opposition members have been put on their hit-list following the revolution which succeeded in toppling Mubarak.

With the looming parliamentary elections, threats like this have been common as former Muslim Brotherhood MP Dr. Gamal Heshmat and FJP leader in Beheira has received similar threats by thugs used by former police officials warning him to stay away from the elections.

Heshmat has also been tipped off by a citizen that there is a plot to harm him before the upcoming elections.

Complaints have been filed by both men and a police operation is under way promising that all those responsible will be arrested, charged and taken to court.
