Dr. Manal Abul Hassan: We Reject Any Repression Against Egyptian Women

Dr. Manal Abul Hassan, FJP Women Secretary in Cairo, told Ikhwanweb that her comments published in Asharq Al Awsat Newspaper about tahrir women march were misquoted. Hassan confirmed her appreciation of the patriotic role of Egyptian women before and after the revolution, and stressed her rejection to any form of repression against Egyptian women.

Hassan added that she was part of the January 25 Revolution since day one, along with Muslim Brotherhood women, many of whom also took part in the "Free Women" march last month against police brutality. "The struggle of Egyptian women against injustice is beyond question, and we will always stand up for women rights whenever they are violated, and this is not the role of women alone, but society as a whole should advocate women rights," she added. "My hope is that Egyptian women will not be left alone in their struggle, but should be joined by all sections of Egyptian society who were present during the revolution."

"The brutal crackdown on female protesters during Cabinet demonstrations was despicable, and it’s one of FJP’s top priorities to prosecute those who committed those crimes," Hassan told Ikhwanweb.

Moreover, Hassan condemned "dishonest media" which deliberately misquoted her "in a bid to smear FJP ahead of Parliament’s first session."
