Ten Brotherhood Student Demands Reverse 30-Year Deteriorating University Conditions

Muslim Brotherhood students criticized repeated flagrant violations of the students’ most basic rights in university campuses across the country.

In an official statement, Brotherhood students made ten demands; the first of which is the formation of a fact-finding committee by the Ministry of Higher Education with participation of the Student Union, to reveal the truth behind violent events, latest food poisoning and death of some students on university campuses.

They also demanded use of specialized security companies to protect students, development of student dormitories, and subsidies for academic textbooks, as well as exempting poor students from fee.

"A new bylaw is required that grants students the right to engage in student activities and express their views freely. Solutions are also required for the problems of Industrial Education students and institutes, which call for amending graduation certificates to commensurate with labor market needs", read the statement.

The statement further stressed that the Minister of Higher Education must recruit two assistants, form specialized committees, with participation of the Student Union, to solve accumulated problems and alleviate the suffering endured by students for decades.

Moreover, Muslim Brotherhood students said, "If no plans are announced to reform the educational process, solve student problems and develop all student services on campus, the Ministry bears full responsibility for issues afflicting students.

"Certainly, we will continue our march until all demands are met, providing students with an appropriate climate for studying and a university education befitting Egyptian students."
