In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Mukhtar Al-Ashri, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Legal Committee, said: "The Muslim Brotherhood and its party face an intense campaign of security persecution against their leaders and senior figures, as well as a plot to frame those leaders with crimes they never committed and which are totally baseless, just to discredit the group and the FJP.

"What is happening is a flagrant violation of freedoms, persecution a political faction based on political perspective – something which the whole world must condemn. These repressive measures will not succeed in thwarting justice or falsifying facts no matter the size of the spin, or how vast the tapestry of lies."
