Former Muslim Brotherhood Chairman Akef Arrested; Erian and Ghozlan Homes Raided

Security forces arrested Mahdi Akef, the former Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood and president of the Muslim Brotherhood Society, after raiding his home twice.

The first time round, Akef was not home, so soldiers promptly arrested his son and held him hostage. Then, hired thugs raided Akef’s ranch, where they tried to loot and steal its contents. Later, yesterday afternoon, security forces and their hirelings raided Akef’s home once again, where they found and arrested him.

Moreover, beefed up security apparatus launched a campaign of raids on homes of a number of other leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP). They raided the home of Dr. Mahmoud Ghozlan, a member of the Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau and the group’s spokesman, but he was not present at home.

Ibrahim, the son of Dr. Essam El-Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice-Chairman, affirmed that his father’s home was raided at dawn yesterday, but did not find him there.

He said, sarcastically, "Mubarak’s dawn visitors, thugs and the military heroes honored us with a night visit to achieve national reconciliation in accordance with the road map of the bright future."
