Freedom and Justice Party Statement on Mubarak Judgment Deferral

Freedom and Justice Party Statement on Mubarak Judgment Deferral

Postponement of the verdict in the trials of deposed President Hosni Mubarak and his aides, for the killing of protesters during the January 25 (2011) Revolution, proved that the judiciary is still an instrument of the military coup, and that all its actions and decisions are closer to military dictates than to judicial judgments.

The main reason that forced the Court to adjourn judgment was that revolutionaries are all united in their resolve to restore the Revolution, fearing that deposed Mubarak and his aides will be acquitted or get away with a light sentence. The military junta also feared the growing wave of anger against the coup in the Egyptian street. Furthermore, the junta is trying to avoid igniting the anger of school and university students at the beginning of the academic year.

The freedom and Justice Party (FJP) appreciates all efforts for national and revolutionary harmony and unity in order to reclaim the January 25 Revolution and its gains. The FJP warns of attempts to allow Mubarak to escape justice, as judges continue to connive with criminals involved in the killing of revolutionaries since January 25, 2011 and until now.
