Freedom and Justice Party Leader Dardery Slams New Death Sentences Against Anti-Coup Citizens

Dr. AbdulMawgoud Dardery, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) leader, said executions cannot help build an economy, especially one based on the demolition of freedoms and violation of human rights.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb (the Muslim Brotherhood's official English-language website), Dr. Dardery said: "It is well known in the modern world that no real economic progress can be achieved if there is no political freedom and respect for human rights.

"In Egypt, the military regime insists on standing stubbornly against freedom and human rights by sentencing to death hundreds of opponents, the last of whom were eight in the city of Mansoura, a day after the end of false economic conference propaganda. In doing this, the junta thinks it could consolidate its power, entrenching its military rule over Egypt, and perhaps even achieve some progress in the economic situation."

Denouncing the mass death sentences, the FJP leader, said: "This contradicts the wisdom humanity has reached: that human freedom is a prerequisite for economic growth and social stability.

"The military junta currently ruling Egypt absurdly believes that jailing and killing political opponents is the way for economic growth and security."

"The military regime in Egypt should learn that European countries and the United States have achieved economic growth, security and stability, not through repression, but democracy based on transparency, openness and civic engagement."
