Human Rights Organization Blasts Coup Security Arrest, Detention Campaign Across Egypt

Security forces continued their fierce campaign of arrests and forced disappearance of Egyptian citizens in a number of governorates of Egypt at dawn Tuesday, rounding up and detaining hundreds of ‘potential’ anti-coup protesters.

The coup security campaign included the governorates of Damietta (which has had the largest share in the number of detainees: over 50 people), Beheira, Sharqeya, Menoufia and North Sinai.

Coup authorities escalated the frantic campaign at an alarming pace at the beginning of January, as a preemptive war, an attempt to intimidate people in order to limit participation in the anticipated huge revolutionary wave marking the January 25 (2011) Revolution.

Shehab Center for Human Rights demands the release of all those arrested, respect for the Constitution, the law and international treaties and conventions which criminalize arresting people and restricting their freedom without any justification or legal basis.
