The Muslim Brotherhood extends its deepest condolences to the people of Syria and the Muslim World, and mourns the death of the great scholar Dr Mohamed Deeb Aljaji, former Comptroller General of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, who passed away in the Jordanian capital Amman at dawn Friday – February 12, 2016.

Dr Aljaji was one of the most important pillars of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, which was founded in the 1930s. Members of the Syrian Brotherhood suffered brutal crackdowns, campaigns of arrests and sweeping confiscations and horrific massacres at the hands of the ruling Baath Party. Of those, the worst massacre was in Hama in 1982. The first comptroller general of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria was the eminent scholar Mustafa Sibai, from 1945 to 1964.

Dr Aljaji was born in the city of Maaret Al-Numan in the countryside of Idlib, in 1936, and lived in Jordan until he passed away. He assumed responsibilities of the Comptroller General of the group in Syria in 1985 for a period of six months.

As we pray to God for the great scholar, we hope He would grant him mercy and forgiveness, and bless us and his family with patience and solace.

God Save Syria and its people
