11 Beni Suweif MBs Detained
In their first reaction towards nominating Gaber Mansour to run for the Shura Council elections for Beni Suweif constituency, the security forces arrested eleven of his supporters while hanging election signs in 3 separate places bearing the slogan ” together to reform the world with religion”.
The detainees are:
Mohamed Halfaya, 49 secondary school principal.
Ahmed Mohamed Abou Al Rish, 39 years, employee at Islamic Da’wa school
Ahmed Sayed Mayhoub, 25 years,
Both children Mousa Mohamed Hilfaya 16 years, and his friend who accidentally visited his father beside the house in which they have been hanging the signs
Mostafa Ali Al Tahawi
Essam Ahmed Abdullah
Mostafa Faris and others
Sources told Ikhwanweb that the security will exploit this incident to charge the candidate of using religious slogans, according to the recently approved law of exercising political rights, which may exclude the MB candidate from the elections although this law is unconstitutional, according the Hous Speaker himself, Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour. The detainees have been referred to the public prosecution on Sunday morning. The child Mousa and his friend haven’t been released yet although they are about to do their last year exams.
For his part, Dr. Hamdi Zahran, the MB parliamentarian for Beni Suweif constituency, said that these detentions aim primarily at preventing the Muslim Brotherhood candidates and their supporters from exercising their natural right of campaigning for the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Gaber Mansour.
Zahran added in a statement to Ikhwanweb that these detentions are part of the National Democratic Party’s continuous attempts to control over all institutions even through detaining political opponents.
