13 Killed In Third Collapse Within Same District, MPs Accuse Municipalities

An old residential building collapsed Wednesday morning, October 8, in Alexandria killing 10, injuring 6, and leaving 3 others missing. Member of the MB Parliamentary Bloc, Sobhy Saleh, described the collapse as hideous pointing out that is the third to occur in the same neighborhood.  Saleh explained that the series of collapses within the last two years is clear proof that corruption has become widespread and versed in municipalities, particularly accusing the Minister of Municipal Development and his apparatus of corruption and negligence.

Al-Mohamedy Sayyid Ahmed, member of the MB Parliamentary Bloc) agreed with Saleh adding that “corruption has become the norm and when the hands of corruption extend we must expect the catastrophes we see.”  Ahmed explained that decisions issued to remove or rebuild without follow up is a form of negligence and corruption that the government should be held accountable for.

The collapsed building was made up of three old floors and two others added illegally.
