35 Candidates Compete on Judges’ Club Seats Early Jan 08

Elections on seats of Alexandria Judges Club will kick off early next month with 35 candidates compete on seats of consultants, judges, chief justices and public prosecutors.
The Alexandria judges” club will hold its general assembly early next month to hold those elections which are of special importance for judges due to the current tense relation between the Judges” Club and the Minister of Justice because of the latter”s harsh attitudes against the club .
It”s worth mentioning that the Judges” Club in Alexandria was the first to call for a full independence from the executive authority and it demanded sufficient guarantees as a precondition for supervising the general elections held in the club and through which Alexandria judges referred their demands to Egyptian Judges” Club.
Candidates running for club president seat are judge Mahmoud Reda Al Khodairi, the club”s current president and deputy chief justice of the Court of Cassation and his slate against judge Ibrahim Al Basyouni the chief justice of Alexandria Court of Appeals and his slate. There are two candidates who compete on the seat of retired judges: judge Ahmed Mehanna (Al Khodairi”s slate) and Nabil Ismail (Al Basyouni”s slate).
On seat of judges of the Court of Cassation, rivals include Ashraf Al Baroudi, Mostafa Darwish and Mostafa Hussein (Al Khodairi”s slate), and Abd Al-Aziz Abu Ayana, Mohamed Kadri Eissa and Essam Abdul Hadi (Al Basyouni”s slate).
10 candidates compete on the seats of judges and chief justices: Adel Shrbash, Mahmoud Abu Shousha, Tarek Eissa, and Imam Al Serafi, and Haitham Hosni (Al Khodairi”s slate), and Amr Karim, Ahmed Hasab Al-Nabie, Tarek Al Shazli, Mohamed Abdul Qawi, and Mohamed Abdul Nabi (Al Basyouni”s slate). As for seats allocated for the public prosecution, there are 15 prosecutors and chief prosecutors.
It is worth mentioning that the general assembly will discuss- in addition to holding elections- the budget and will hold- for the first time- a direct and secret vote on amending the club regulation so that it does not allow the club chief to remain in his post more than two 3-year terms, like Egyptian Judges” Club.
