A Lawsuit Calling on the Minister of Interior: Police Officers should Undergo Physiological and Mental Check Ups
Three lawyers filed a lawsuit before the Administrative Judiciary ordering that the Minister of Interior should give orders for policemen to undergo periodic psychological and mental check ups. The lawsuit also included the abolition of the negative decision of the minister not to withdraw the arms of any policeman who is psychologically ill..
Lawyers Nabeel Gabriel Nazeer, Sayed Fayez Samaan and Karam Gabriel Nazeer said in their lawsuit no. 15690 said that “the state of confusion” suffered by the Egyptian police officers after the Samalut train incident in which one person died and five others were injured reveals the importance of these check ups. They added that the police announced that the police officer Amer Ashour Abdel Zaher has a psychological illness. This was noted by the governor of Minia; however, he strongly denied this the very next day..
The lawyers said that instead of arresting the perpetrators of the massacre in the Saints Church accident, they found a policeman shooting an innocent citizen which he was supposed to protect, not to kill..
The lawyers called for the need to abolish the negative decision which prevents the implementation of legal procedures, especially periodical check ups on every police officer and member of the interior and that if anyone is proven to be psychologically ill, his weapon should be taken from him.
