Aboul-Fotouh Urges President Mubarak to Release Al-Erian

Dr. Abdel Monem Abul Fotouh- Secretary General of the Arab Doctors Union- will go during next week- to the presidential office to give a petition to President Hosni Mubarak, demanding him to release Dr. Essam Al-Erian who was arrested May 18,2006 and held without trial.

Given that he is one of the Egyptians who did their best for their country’s honour, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate and the Arab Doctors Union try to make the highest official authority intervene to release Al-Erian after being thrown in an endless detention without committing any sin or crime against his country.

Al-Erian was arrested during a campaign of arrests against reform activists. Many have been released in intermittent periods. However, Al-Erian and ten of his colleagues are still in detention despite the fact that interrogations are over. In addition, he was not put on trial for these claimed accusations.

The Arab Doctors Union launched a campaign called " Freedom for Essam Al-Erian" with the participation of the Arab and Egyptian professional syndicates, independent members of Parliament, the Egyptian Judges’ Club, Kefaya Movement, and the National Front for Change, demanding releasing Dr. Essam, specially that he is behind bars since May only because he was expressing his opinion freely and the regime punished him by throwing him in prison.
