Abul-Fotouh Depicts Egyptian Regime As Police State Lacking Popularity

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, and in commenting on today’s detention of Muslim Brotherhood leaderships, MB Executive Bureau member Dr. Abdul-Monem Abul-Fotouh said that this wave of detentions is part of the Egyptian regime’s systematic policy of hindering reformists from attaining any genuine political reform, so it stands hostile to all opposition political forces in general and  the Muslim Brotherhood in particular. Abul Fotouh pointed out that one of the means adopted by the Egyptian regime to  obstruct reform is to resort to use of force including crackdowns on peaceful assemblies , although it is a right enshrined in the  law and constitution. He added  that all the Muslim Brotherhood meetings are peaceful ones and are aimed to tackle political and societal reform issues within the framework of law and constitution. Abul Fotouh expressed his astonishment at detaining leaderships at a peaceful meeting without these detained possessing any arms or contrabands. “ It is surprising that  the security agencies or the regime considers Ustaz Lashin Abu Shanab as a security risk while he nearly doesn’t move and has been a quadriplegic for over ten years” Abul Fotouh lamented. He affirmed that these recent arrests mar the image of Egypt and its regime insomuch as it offends the Muslim Brotherhood which is known for its peaceful, reformist attitude.
