ACHR condemns detentions and sees Dr.Fotouh’s arrest as a direct assault on the Arab Labour
Egyptian Security Services launched in the early hours of Sunday morning an unprecedented crackdown against four Egyptian-Arab high-ranking Brotherhood figures in Cairo and Al-Gharbia governorates.
Dr. Abdel-Moneim Abu el-Fotouh, Member of the Executive Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Secretary-General of the Arab Doctors” Federation was the first detainees and one of the most important public and trade union figures in Egypt and the Arab world. Where he pays much attention to human rights. He has played a key role in the pursuit of Israeli war criminals and in promoting rights of trade union doctors to strengthen the role of the Arab physicians in the humanitarian issues in the conflict zones such as Darfur, Iraq, Palestine and Somalia. The arrests have included Dr. Jamal Abdul Salam, Head of the Emergency Relief Committee of the Arab Doctors” Federation, also well-known for efforts in the charitable and relief organizations especially in cases of siege, and emergency relief. He is also one of the well-known leaders promoting relief and humanitarian efforts where he is also a distinguished political fighter mostly devoting his time to relief work.. He was released on February 5th after he was detained for more than fifty days under the pretext of efforts made in supporting the Palestinians in Gaza.
It is revealed that the former legal adviser to the Ministry of Justice and Expert on the Islamic Financial Transactions Dr. Fathi Lashin, as one of the detainees and Mr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jamal (Algharbia) from the Ministry of Education is also among those arrested.
The Arab commission for human rights reported sums of money confiscated during the raid on Dr Fathi Lashin”s house however they have not been able to report the exact amount. The detainees are expected to be presented before the prosecution later today.
The Arab Commission for Human Rights regards the administrative detention as a means to dismember the individual’s civil, political, and professional freedom, and a slack means by the Egyptian authorities in which they have resorted, to deter those who disagree with the regime. The Commission condemns these detentions and sees Dr. Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh’s arrest as a direct assault on the Arab Labour Union, demanding the immediate release of the four detainees
