Adel Hamid, FJP MP: We Stand by Families of Martyrs to Claim Their Legitimate Rights

Adel Hamid, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) member of parliament for the Sayeda Zainab constituency, said: “Justice requires us to stand by the martyrs’ families to claim their lawful rights, to identify those who killed their children and bring them forth to a fair trial in accordance with law.”

With regard to martyrs’ families being prevented from attending court hearings, Hamid said that the families of martyrs have the right to attend all court sessions of the trial right up to and including the sentencing hearing. “It is not right, in any circumstances, for the families of martyrs to be deprived of their most basic rights, the right to attend their case’s court sessions.”

In a hearing, today, the Cairo Criminal Court acquitted 5 officers from Sayeda Zainab police department accused of killing 5 protesters and attempting to murder 6 others during the demonstrations of 28 and 29 January 2011. The court issuing the said verdict was headed by Justice Asim Abdul Hamid and included Counsellors Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Sattar and Sami Zinedine.
