Administrative Court Issues First Ruling to Halt Local Elections

The Administrative court ruled on Sunday to suspend  local elections in Kafr Saad and Zarka centers in Damietta Governorate north of Egypt, since earlier court orders in favor of the MB candidates in the same centers were not executed.

The judgment is the first so far to stop local elections which witnessed many obstacles and violations against Brotherhood, independent and opposition parties’ candidates.

Said Al-Anani, the lawyer for the MB in Damietta Governorate, praised the Court for its impartial ruling and hoped the decision will correct the current mess created by the government’s flagrant interference in the elctoral process.

Al-Anani expected two similar judgments tomorrow in favour of the MB candidates in Damietta and Fariskor which, if issued, will cancel the local election across the entire Damietta.

He also stated that “If the government did not execute these judgments, we would have the right to bring lawsuits invalidating the outcome of the elections”.
