AECHRIL Calls for Release of Al-Shater, Malik, Suleiman

The Arab-European Center of Human Rights and International Law (AECHRIL) in Oslo calls the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to issue a a decree granting political amnesty to all political detainees, led by Eng. Khairat Al-Shater, Deputy Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan Malek and Dr. Osama Al Suleiman.

In its statement of which Ikhwanweb received a copy, they called for the release of all prisoners of conscience that have been arrested under the State of Emergency imposed in Egypt by the successive regimes, as well as other detainees who were tried before special courts during the ousted Mubarak era.

Aihan Jaf, Director-General of the Arab-European Center of Human Rights and International Law, said that they had been convicted in an unfair trial marred by endless irregularities aimed to settle political accounts followed by the Egyptian regime to discredit the former opponents and as a means of political harassment against his rivals.

This, in turn, makes it imperative for the Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces to take quick and serious steps to correct the error, in recognition of the confidence prisoners, their families and the Egyptian people have placed in them.

Jaf expressed the hope that the Armed Forces would act wisely with a general amnesty and enforce human rights, and legal and humanitarian prospectives in the first place, in response to the "legitimate" popular demands of the January 25 Revolution, under the powers conferred upon them by law.
