After Visiting Khossos, Beltagy: No Substitute for Peaceful Co-Existence and Serious Dialogue in Egypt
Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Executive Bureau of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said: "I visited Khossos City Wednesday with a National Council for Human Rights delegation. We walked through the city’s streets and sidewalks, and met people in front of houses and shops, in the city’s church and mosque. All evidence confirms that the clashes there were artificially contrived, and that attempts to cause sectarian strife between Muslims and Copts there will surely fail".
In a post on his Facebook page, Dr. Beltagy further said: "The sectarian violence card will fail in Khossos, just as it failed in Imbaba, Atfeih, Qena and Aswan. The sectarian card will fail generally just as the factional strikes, civil disobedience and second (fake) revolution failed, because sectarian violence is alien to Egypt and its people. It has no roots in Egyptian society.
Egypt is certainly nothing like Lebanon, for example.
"This does not mean that there are no problems or that we do not need real solutions to these problems. It means that there is no alternative at all for co-existence, serious dialogue, mutual recognition of mistakes and action to correct such mistakes and build trust. We must refuse to respond to calls for escalation, exaggeration and extremism. Perpetrators and provocateurs must be held accountable (whoever they are). Above all, those who mastermind contrived strife, sedition and crises must be apprehended and exposed."
