Akef: Egypt’s Revival is Goal of Muslim Brotherhood and “Freedom and Justice”

Mahdi Akef, former Muslim Brotherhood Chairman, called upon the military (SCAF) to hand over power to civilians, as soon as possible, and to end the transitional period so life returns to normal without delay.

In a conference in Beheira (90 km from the capital, Cairo), Akef said: "The Egyptian people are aware of what is happening. They made this freedom, and they own this freedom. So, they will not give it up whatever the price. We are totally confident that no-one can ever destroy the principles of the revolution."

He stressed that Egypt now needs serious, hard work for full regeneration and revitalisation of its economy, security, education and tourism industry.

He pointed out that the revolution is not confined to any one faction, adding that: the masses of the Egyptian people, from all walks of life, participated in the revolution. Tahrir Square was a real proof of the true nature of the Egyptian people and their great morals.

He explained that the lack of Muslim Brotherhood candidates for the presidency is not for lack of competence, but in the interest of Egypt.

He also stressed that the FJP and the Muslim Brotherhood’s goal is to work for the overall development of Egypt.
