Akef Commends Saudi Security for Foiling Attack on Abqaiq

Mr. Mohamed Mahdi Akef, the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, addressed his tribute to Saudi security forces for foiling the attempted terrorist attack, Friday, 24 February 2006, against the Abqaiq oil facility in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.
In a press release issued today, Saturday, February 25, 2006, the General Guide prayed to Almighty God to keep the kingdom of Saudi Arabia from all evils and to save the Arab region from the scourge of terrorism. He stressed that all efforts should be combined to guide young people into becoming a constructive not a destructive element. He wished quick recovery for wounded Saudi security personnel.
Al-Qaida organization in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for that operation, which took place at the Abqaiq oil facility where more than 60 per cent of the country’s oil is processed. The attack didn’t cause serious damage to those facilities but shot up world oil prices.
Saudi sources confirmed that two explosives-packed cars driven by two suicide-bombers tried to enter the site. The cars carried the Saudi oil company (Aramco)’s emblem and the two suicide-bombers were wearing the workers’ uniform of the company but the guards of the facility exchanged fire with them. This resulted in the killing the two suicide-bombers and two security personnel and the explosion of the cars at the entrance of the facility, triggering a small fire in an oil pipeline.
Below is the text of the statement of the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood:
