Akef Criticizes Arrest of Female Political Activist Israa Abdel Fattah
Mr. Mohamed Mahdi Akef, chairman of MB, said that arresting female political activist Israa Abdel Fattah, 28, who allegedly was the main organizer of the April 6th strike stresses the fact that the Egyptian regime oppresses political opposition or anyone who opposes the ruling National Democratic Party’s policies. He emphasized that such a call for the strike would be fruitless if the Egyptians did not have real political, economic, and social problems.
The government arrested Israa for allegedly initiating the call for strike through the popular website facebook. She has been refered to by many as "the facebook girl"
Akef added that Israa’s case proves that the regime is against all the Egyptians regardless of their political affiliation. He also criticized the government disregard to decisions passed by legal authroities when they’re not for the government’s favo, which has been clearly evident in many MB related cases, and in this case ignored an order by the Prosecutor General to release Israa; however the order was not executed..
