Akef heads first meeting with the newly elected Executive Guidance Bureau

Wednesday December 23, witnessed the first Muslim Brotherhood movement’s meeting after elections led by the current Chairman Mr Mohamed Mahdi Akef. The meeting was attended by members of both the newly elected members and the previous members of the Executive Guidance Bureau. The meeting was held at the brotherhood’s headquarters in Cairo.

Akef asserted that the Movement’s history was full of triumphs claiming that these successes may be attributed to the members’ love, sincerity, honesty and good will to one another and more importantly to Allah. He warned the members of paying attention to rumours outside the movement by opposition stressing that the Movement was, has been and will continue to follow its cause of peaceful reform through its moderate ideology and respect of democracy.

The Chairman called on the Bureau’s members to be sure of its aims ascertaining that the movement will continue to stand for its ideals in improving the lot of others and opposing injustice and through this ideal the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance can and will be swept. He alleged that the movement’s upcoming agenda would be comprised of the continued support of the oppressed Palestinians even if it involves facing opposition by all. The agenda will also include standing in the face of tyranny stressing “our cause deems we stand united in solidarity with the weak, the needy, the persecuted and those in despair against any oppression”.

Akef concluded in a statement to “Ikhwanweb” that “Without doubt the road ahead will be full of hardships which need patience and perseverance. The basic elements, identity of interest, clarity of vision, honesty of intent, and oneness of purpose, must be present for our cause to be successfully fulfilled. We must never forget that through this belief we can bring our political and governmental institutions back to life, make them responsive and accountable, and keep them honest. Last and foremost we must continue to have faith in Allah for without this faith, nothing is possible, with it, nothing is impossible”.
