Al Dostour’ Editor Sentenced for Six Months in President’s Health Rumor

Boulak civil court sentenced Ibrahim Eissa, editor-in-chief of the Egyptian daily newspapers “Al-Dostour”, to six months in jail for disturbing public security through publishing rumors around the health of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
 
Ibrahim Mansour, the executive editor-in-chief of the daily Al-Dustoor newspaper, condemned today’s verdict in his speech to Ikhwanweb correspondent saying that such cases on press and publishing are going worse everyday.
 
Mansour said that such verdicts are against freedom of press, and against journalists in general. Adding that receiving a six-months jail sentence for a journalist demanding a governmental statement around the health of the president after rumors were circulated all around Egypt is unfair.
 
Adding that such cases are totally groundless and should have been dismissed long time ago.
 
“Today’s verdict would be followed by an appeal and we would go through all procedures for the appeal” Ibrahim Mansour said.
