Al-Erian Confident SCAF Will Handover Power by June
Discussing the new Parliament, Freedom and Justice Party Vice Chariman and MP Dr. Essam el Erian described it as reflective of the Egyptian people’s will and integrity. He stated: "The Parliament’s main priority includes achieving freedom and justice for all of Egypt in addition to focusing on health, education and services"
He added: "Appointing a Constituent Assembly by the parliament and Shura assemblies to write up the country’s new constitution is also high on the FJP’s priority list".
In response to hearsay concerning early transition of power from SCAF to the elected Parliament Speaker, El-Erian stressed that this move is unconstitutional and will not be proposed. He stated: "SCAF has agreed to handover power volunarrily once free, fair and transparent presidential elections are held to a civil and elected president by June 1st, 2012".
