Al Hashemi, Talabani and Barzani Sign Tripartite MoU

In a crucial step aiming to save the deteriorating situation in Iraq and to realize a national reconciliation between all parties inside Iraq, Tarek Al Hashemi, Iraqi vice-president, Jalal Talabani, Iraqi president and Masood Barazani, president of Iraqi Kurdistan region, signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iraqi Islamic Party and both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
 
The signed MoU included stressing on the principle of power-sharing, decision making and refusing the policy of marginalization and exclusion in addition to achieving and supporting efforts leading to a real national reconciliation and effectively contributing in it. The MoU included also rejecting all forms of terrorism, rejecting regional and foreign intervention in Iraqi affairs and establishing national armed forces with a proficient performance and independent affiliation.
 
The MoU called also for necessarily accelerating releasing detainees in all Iraqi and US prisons, and widening the political process to include those rejecting it at the present time.
 
The MoU approved also an agreement on a suitable action plan to help get out of the current political deadlock and an agreement on mechanisms and committees to make details of this memorandum of understanding take effect in the near future.
 
This meeting is considered a cornerstone for building a common view that paves the way for a social contract that serves the political process and that will undoubtedly affect the various political, security and economic fields as the parties aspire to developing a more comprehensive political work.
 
Al Hashemi has declared in a press conference after the joint meeting that signing this MoU is not an alternative for the four-party coalition but all options are on the table for all political parties and entities. He added that at least the Iraqi Islamic Party has all options on the table, options that may serve the national project and push ahead the political process and activate the national reconciliation project.
 
Hoping that the future will undoubtedly have great positive changes, Al Hashemi confirmed that:” The political spectrum or political blocs are liable to change because of the deadlock in the political process nowadays. Huge changes are expected to be taken in the current political blocs in the near future. This memorandum of understanding does not target any specific party”, referring to the fact that the Iraqi Islamic Party didn”t join the four-party coalition.
