Al Sane: We Want to Rid Kuwaiti Political Arena of Tension

Dr. Nasser Al Sane, a member of the Kuwaiti National Assembly and a top leader in the Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM), the Muslim Brotherhood offshoot in Kuwait , confirmed that the bad relation between the National Assembly and government may be attributed to several internal and external parties that want tension to continue clouding the Kuwaiti political arena .

Al Sane said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the continuous tension of the relation between the National Assembly and government is attributed to several reasons, foremost among which are:

First: The government doesn”t have a majority in parliamentary inside the National Assembly, exposing it to a parliamentary opposition at any time.

Second: The weakness performance of the government, a performance that has holes which are too be big for MPs to ignore because they are required to supervise, hold accountable and interrogate the government.

Third: There are individuals in various posts who do not want the democratic process to continue in Kuwait and outside Kuwait because practicing democracy embarrasses them. So, they seek whatever means they can to obstruct the democratic process. These parties have media outlets, lobbies, moneys, relations and positions in effective posts.

Al Sane pointed out that these parties are specific Arab regimes that want to stop this democratic experience in Kuwait because it is against their interests. They fear that it spreads to their countries. There are also parties inside Kuwaiti royal family who are embarrassed by the democratic exercise. Add to this businessmen who got used to having an influence and relations with ruling parties from whom they can illegally seize state owned lands. When the National Assembly monitor and expose these illegal exercises and they try to abort this democratic practice, worsen matters and show a dark image of the status quo in Kuwait . Holding a minister accountable is natural and takes place everywhere.

Asked about the ICM”s initiative to bring closer the legislative and executive authorities, Al Sane said:” We have tabled this initiative because we are a political movement concerned with the relation between the legislative and executive authorities to reach a state of democratic and political agreement in a way that serves Kuwaiti people. However, we are still to know reactions of other parties towards this initiative. We are to activate this initiative during the vacation and consultations will be held to yield good results God willing.
