Al-Shater, in Cairo: Renaissance Project Made by All Egyptians
Khairat Al-Shater, the Freedom and Justice Party and Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate in Egypt’s upcoming presidential elections, said that his first goal is to rebuild Egypt on modern foundations and offer the Renaissance Project on the basis of Islamic reference.
In front of thousands of residents in Shubra Al-Khaima district (Cairo), Wednesday, Al-Shater said that his election campaign’s visit to Shubra Al-Khaima is meant to honor the great industrial city and its glorious history, “the city founded by Mohamed Ali to be birthplace of his renaissance project, the foundation stone and the main axis for overall rejuvenation, after the Industrial Renaissance of his era.
Further, Al-Shater explained that the rebuilding of Egypt on the basis of Islamic reference will start from the city of Shubra Al-Khaima, just like Mohamed Ali’s renaissance. He added that the people of Shubra al-Khaima, like all the Egyptian People, lack all the basic essentials of living.
Moreover, Al-Shater said: “We know that the first step to rebirth of the nation is collective work. Unfortunately, the former regime killed the spirit and practice of teamwork in all the population. Instead, it divided them into different and differing sects and factions which could never agree on anything.
“I call on all Egyptians on all levels – government, president, parliament and media, old and young, groups and communities – to be all together, unite ranks and support one another.”
Al-Shater also emphasized that each and every Egyptian has a role in the achievement of the renaissance, and that everyone should partake positively and get involved, each in his own position, to achieve comprehensive development in all walks of life.
He asserted that the goal of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) is to achieve Egypt’s renaissance, adding that the Renaissance Project will not be completed without engaging all institutions, closing ranks and the elimination of the idea and theory of one single person, the president, being responsible for all.
Al-Shater also affirmed that the ultimate goal is to build the institution of the Presidency, restore the role of Parliament and achieve balance in government work and interaction.
Further, Al-Shater explained that disasters and corruption engendered by Mubarak, his chums and holdovers from his regime still plague the country. He pointed that the latest of these is the budget deficit, which has surpassed one trillion Egyptian pounds (over US$167 billion), which is a real recipe for disaster. This prompted the Brotherhood to nominate one of their own for the presidential elections.
Moreover, Al-Shater explained that although the Renaissance Project was painstakingly developed by the Brotherhood, he cannot achieve it alone. Rather, he believes it will come to light when everyone is involved in achieving and implementing the project on the ground, with all the people joining hands, united on a national level.
Further, Al-Shater explained that his program aims to build a new political system, to reform the security system, and to restore law and order to the Egyptian street, by enacting a new law for the police, reviewing the police force’s social welfare system, and reconsidering the level of their professional doctrine practically.
Expressing his surprise that a historical city like Shubra Al-Khaima is full of corruption, its streets overflows with garbage, and only has two hospitals, he said that this great city has more than 4 million residents and is frequented by many times that figure every day.
Al-Shater pointed out that the most important axes of his platform is to achieve social justice among all Egyptians, to provide adequate housing for young people, and to eliminate unemployment, which is also what the Renaissance Project seeks to achieve.
He said that, nowadays, every citizen lives through a series of crises, every day, like troublesome queues when buying breakfast bread and finding that food and drink on the market is not fit for human consumption. He stressed that all these daily problems will be solved in a few months.
Further, Al-Shater explained that development of the education system is a major priority in the Renaissance Program, pointing out that the Program aims to build a new educational system including best practice techniques and methods to produce new kinds of graduates ready to implement the programs of renaissance, rejuvenation and development.
Al-Shater said that the way Omar Suleiman’s candidacy was dealt with, honoring him with a protective chain of the Republican Guards (usually reserved only for the President of the Republic), and his sinister claim that the Muslim Brotherhood threatened to kill him, all suggest pessimism rather than hope, and warn of a plot against the future of Egypt.
