Al-Shater Family: Will Not Stop Supporting Electoral Legitimacy Despite Coup Terror

Saad Al-Shater, the son of well-known businessman Mohamed Khairat Al-Shater, Deputy Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, reaffirmed that their family will not change its stance in support of constitutional legitimacy and rejection of the military coup, no matter what the ‘incentives’ or the threats.

Meanwhile, Al-Shater’s wife said that the manner by which so-called security forces arrested Al-Shater calls to mind the worst moments of the dark days of the bygone era of injustice. She added that during his arrest, officers acted in ways uglier than anything the notorious State Security operatives did in Mubarak’s reign of oppression and brutality, breaking doors and threatening women and children with their weapons.

Al-Shater’s wife said that the Egyptian people will be right to believe that those who close TV channels and arrest innocent people must be misguided individuals who will never stay in power, adding that President Morsi is the protector of democracy, and that he had tried during the past year (his first) in office to teach security forces the principles of democracy, as he refused their usual policies of gagged mouths and closure of TV channels, but they did not learn the lesson and did not change their hateful heinous ways.

"Khairat Al-Shater was jailed for his political orientation for 12 years. He always said: ‘I will not surrender. We will not sell, nor leave our homeland’. In any event, he was never told what his crime was supposed to be, in the era of Mubarak and his loyalists."
