Amr Moussa promises to intervene with Egyptian authorities to set Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh free
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa hailed the efforts of Dr. Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh, a member of the Executive Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Secretary-General of the Arab Doctors Union a praising the significant role played by him in the Arab Doctors Union and the Humanitarian Relief Commission on the Arab and humanitarian level.
Moussa expressed deepest sympathy to Abul Fotouh during a telephone conversation held with the Egyptian Medical Association head Dr. Hamdi Al-Sayyed yesterday. The current detention of the Arab doctors Union Secretary-General threatens Egypt"s status, its influence and its leading role in the Arab Union, he claimed, referring to the important and significant role played by Abu Fotouh to benefit Egypt in the Arab Doctor’s Federation.
The Arab League chief promised the chairman of the Egyptian Doctors Syndicate to make efforts in intervening with the Egyptian authorities to set Abul-Fotouh who was arrested along with a number of the Brotherhood high ranking leaders in the case of the alleged international network. He abstained in remarking, emphasizing that he had diplomatic immunity because of his position.
Meanwhile, Dr. Essam El-Erian, the syndicate"s treasurer affirmed to “Al-Mesryoon” newspaper that the syndicate had sent a letter to the Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud demanding the release of Dr. Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh and Secretary-General of the relief committee of Arab Doctors" Union. There is no way they will contemplate leaving Egypt. They are important figures who love their country and are loved by all and will not leave under any circumstances regardless of their charges.
El-Erian asserted that the Medical Association also addressed the National Council for Human Rights through memoranda addressed to the President of the Council Dr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali and his deputy Dr. Kamal Abul-Magd. He urged them to intervene on behalf of the Council to put an end to the plight of Abul Fotouh and Jamal Abdel-Salam who face accusation of belonging to an outlawed movement and promoting the international network of the Muslim Brotherhood.
El-Erian warned that the Egyptian authorities resorting to the provisional detention of Dr. Abul Fotouh and Jamal Abdel El-Salam, will threaten the Egyptians’ presence amid the Arab Doctors Federation. Furthermore, there are plans for the transfer of the Arab Doctors Union from Egypt.
He emphasized that the so-called exceptional and abnormal procedures will not harm or affect the Muslim Brotherhood as it could cause severe damage to Egypt as a whole.
Sheikh Gomaah Amin, head of the Muslim Brotherhood Committee for Citations and Chronicle, and supervisor of the Center for Foresight has also been included on the list of defendants as the fifth Member of the Executive Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood in the present hearing of the international network.
Jumaah is the fifth member of the MB Executive Bureau arrested with Dr. Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh, Dr. Osama Nasr, head of the parliamentary bloc of the Muslim Brotherhood Dr. Saad Al-Katatni and Eng. Saad Al-Husseini.
Al-Mesryoon said that the Muslim Brotherhood expects further security attacks against its leaders where it is estimated that the number of the MB in detention are fifty. It forces the Muslim Brotherhood to be on full alert watching out for new security attacks in which more of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders may be arrested.
However, Dr. Essam El-Erian, the head of the political section in the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group said the movement will not be bullied or intimidated by the detentions and crackdowns. All Muslim Brotherhood leaders are ready to pay any price whether it is arrest or even death, pointing out that the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Chairman Imam Hassan al-Banna was killed aloud in the street.
.
El-Erian described the Brotherhood as they are sincere people and what is happening such as the escalation of crackdowns threatening Egypt"s interests and its stability. The sole beneficiary of the escalation and confrontation between the State and the Muslim Brotherhood is the Zionist enemy and his U.S ally.
The State Security service has arrested Dr. Ashraf Abdel Ghaffar, member of the Medical Association and the Rapporteur of the humanitarian relief Committee while he was at the airport waiting for his flight to Turkey. His name was included amongst the accused in the case of the international network of the Muslim Brotherhood along with Abdel Moneim Abul-Fotouh and Jamal Abdul Salam.
