Appeals Court Rejects Essam El-Erian’s Appeal
North Cairo Appeals Court overturned on Monday the appeal submitted by the defence team against the state security prosecution”s decision of prolonging the jail of Dr. Essam El-Erian and 14 other Muslim Brotherhood (MB) leaders:
Dr. Ahmed Omar.
Al-Sayyed Nizeili.
Eng. Nabil Moqbel.
Dr. Sanaa Abu Zeid.
Dr. Mohamed Kamal.
Sheikh Hamdi Ibrahim.
Dr. Mohie Al Zaet.
Eng. Hossam Abu Bakr.
Eng. Khaled Al Beltagi.
Dr. Ali Ezzuddin Thabet.
Seif Al-Din Maghrabi.
Osama Hassanein.
Hammam Ali Youssef.
Mohamed Abdul Fattah Ibrahim .
The defence team, headed by the MB lawyer Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud, confirmed to the Court of Appeals that this case is politically motivated, that there is no evidences of any criminal suspicion against detainees, and that the case is merely a political disagreement between the Muslim Brotherhood and the regime, a disagreement and conflict whose place isn”t the court but it has another place.
The defence team confirmed that the detainees are public figures and university professors who include seventy-some figures and that a provisional detention against them is a legal punishment.
Abdul Maqsood pointed out that the defence team will resume its legal attempts until all detainees are released.
It is worth mentioning that the security services have broken into the house of businessman Nabil Moqbel on Friday afternoon, August, 17th, 2007, while he had a group of visitors. The security forces arrested all of them and searched their houses in their absence and seized the PCs in their houses in addition to dozens of books, belongings and personal papers.
