The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group in criticized the European attitude towards case of the Bulgarian nurses convicted of infecting Libyan children of HIV virus.

The group said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Ikhwanweb, that the group denounces this uncivilized attitude from the European countries in their flagrant intervention in Libyan domestic affair and attempting to politicize the case through unfairly backing the Bulgarian government. We may understand the European attitude towards executions but we do not accept violating the principle of equality in front of justice.

The following is the text of the statement

Equality in Front of Law

We have followed up the developments of the case of the HIV-infected children after the Supreme Court upheld death sentences against the six defendants. The Muslim Brotherhood group in Libya confirms its attitude towards this case: it confirms that justice is realized only when rights of the victims, defendants and are public rights are guaranteed. Justice is established only when the principle of equality before law is applied on both compatriots and expatriates.

Though we welcome the decision of the victims" relatives of accepting to concede their demands for death sentences after accepting to take compensations, but we are worried about indications that Libya is heading for conceding public rights. The defendants have been convicted after it was proved that they have committed this crime in all courts and this was finally upheld by the Supreme Court. Due to the savageness of the crime, infecting more than 400 children with HIV virus, we urge the Libyan authorities not to concede this public right and hand the defendants to Bulgaria according to a prisoner swap agreement. This is because a prisoner swap means releasing them and allowing them to flee justice.

The Muslim Brotherhood group in Libya denounces this uncivilized attitude from the European countries in their flagrant intervention in Libyan domestic affairs and attempting to politicize the case through unfairly backing the Bulgarian government. We may understand the European attitude towards executions but we do not accept violating the principle of equality in front of justice.

Libya has faced huge pressures in this case. We in the Muslim Brotherhood group in Libya confirm that the only solution is to remain restive in front of such pressures. We only can prevent such attempts from violating national sovereignty through state which is based on institutions. These institutions should be chosen by a real popular will with the cooperation and efforts of all freemen in Libya.
