In a related context, Cairo Criminal Court issued a ruling of acquitting 67 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) detainees. The Interior Minister has the right to appeal the acquittal within 15 days after the it, according to the emergency law.

Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud, MB lawyer, said that the acquittal ruling may take a month to take effect, due to the state of emergency in the country. He considered the possible new detention of MB individuals as leading to a spiral of endless prosecution. When ever the Egyptian independent courts issue rulings of acquitting MB members, the security services issue more arrest warrants against them to deny them justice and freedom .

Abdul Maqsood demanded the government to reconsider its unjust policy and immediately release all detainees.
