Abdul Maqsood: Ill-Gotten Gain Committee Report Legally Useless

Abdul Maqsood: Ill-Gotten Gain Committee Report Legally Useless

The report prepared by the ill-gotten gain committee and Public Property management over MB money laundry charges is illegal and is issued by an incompetent authority, although the report cleared most defendants, said a member of the defense panel.

Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) lawyer and a member of the defence team for MB leaders referred to the military Justice, confirmed that the report prepared by the ill-gotten gain committee and Public Property management over the money laundry charges against MB leaders as illegal and issued by an incompetent authority, although the report cleared most defendants.

Abdul Maqsood pointed out to that only party authorized to tackle this issue is the anti-money laundering unit , according to the money laundry law. This unit is the only party authorized to file such kinds of lawsuits to justice and is also the only party authorized with opening and following up such cases. However, it hasn’t been allowed to take part since the beginning.

Abdul Maqsood added that this report is legally useless because it is based on illegal methods.
Since the beginning of the case, said the MB lawyer, no rules or laws have been followed in the lawsuit. Consequently, this report is illegal even if it clears the MB leaders .

The 300 page report, prepared by this committee that includes experts from ill-gotten gain authority and Public Properties authority to probe into documents of the case file no. 963 of the year 2006, confirmed that most frozen companies aren’t doing any money laundry .

The committee pointed that, after checking documents presented by the prosecution, the Tax Department and records of these companies and the traffic administration, a number of these companies are not doing any money laundry. The companies are Talaie Al-Iman, Fath for wood trade and industry, Dar Es Salaam for trade and distribution, and Al-Risala for Arab information technology.
