Muhammad Akef, the Supreme Guide of the Moslem Brotherhood, affirmed that the movement goes on its cooperation with all political and national powers to put an end to all patterns of corruption and deposition along with the consolidation of a comprehensive political and social reform.

This came within his address delivered after the annual, collective breakfast in Ramadan. In his speech, the Supreme Guide stressed the great sacrifices which the movement has offered in its way toward the reform, for example, the detention of 3000 members of the movement; most of them are still detained.

In the beginning of his speech, Akef welcomed the guests, and then he mentioned the spiritual merits of Ramadan. After that he briefed the events of the Egyptian political life, starting from the constitutional amendment of article76 till the first multi-candidate presidential election held in the last Sep.

For Akef, all measures taken by the ruling system were decorative and aimed at making an everlasting rule, a step that can not be accepted by the Moslem Brotherhood.

Akef emphasized the movement’s support to all sides that suffer from the unjust ruling system, hinting to the Egyptian judges who decline all unfair acts of the ruling system such as the falsification of the elections.

In addition, the speech, covered by a number of press and news agencies correspondents, plans the political action of the opposing powers during the upcoming period. The insistence on reform by all peaceful means and having a new era among the government, people and the reform-seeking national powers are the main features of the new plan.

Akef, besides, called for the abolishment of the emergency law and the reconsideration of provisional detentions. He also urged to lay down new rules for the political process, for example, political plurality and peaceful circulation of the authority. A comprehensive economical and social reform should go in parallel in order to solve the poverty and the unemployment and their negative consequences.

Akef then moved to the Palestinian issue. He underlined the importance of this issue; it should be given priority. He asked the Palestinians to unify themselves in order to face their enemy. He also criticized the rush of some Islamic countries to naturalize their relations with Israel after the withdrawal from Gaza without calling for further steps. Following the regrettable clashes between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, Akef demanded the Palestinians to be self-restraint.

As for Iraq, Akef mentioned the atrocities of the American troops. “Is democracy based on casualties? Can it be attained under occupation? Does the situation in Abu Garib, Faloga and Iraqi cities have any connection to democracy or even to humanity?” Akef remarked.

He, furthermore, criticized the US which exercises pressure over Iran to halt the peaceful use of the nuclear energy. Meanwhile, it ignores the Israeli nuclear war heads. Thus, the US applies a double-measured policy, he added.

Finally, Akef urged all Arab and Islamic ruling system to conciliate with their people as the first step of reform.
