I know I already announced these once, but here are some upcoming events for this week.

Monday: Institute for Middle East Studies Research Workshop, "Shifting Conceptions of Citizenship in the Middle East." My panel, "Egypt: Challenges of Ialam [sic], Citizenship, and Democracy", is the first one. Besides me (talking about the Muslim Brotherhood"s recent evolution), the speakers will be: Ellis Goldberg, a professor of political science at the University of Washington and author of one of the first - and still best - articles comparing Islamism and the Protestant Reformation, who will be speaking about Tariq el-Bishri and Islamist ideas of citizenship; and Mona el-Ghobashy of Barnard, last year"s winner of MESA"s Malcolm Kerr Award for best dissertation in the social sciences and author of one of the best recent articles about the Muslim Brotherhood. It will be from 10-12, 6th floor of the Elliott School (1957 E Street, NW), open to the public but it"s not too late to RSVP.

Thursday: "The Muslim Brotherhood"s Political Party Platform," at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Dupont Circle, 4:00-5:30 (oddly there"s no mention of it on the website, which can"t be good for publicity). Me, Amr Hamzawy, and Nathan Brown.

Friday: "Military Progress in Iraq." With Stephen Biddle, on break from Baghdad, along with Nora Bensahel of RAND and Lawrence Korb of the Center for American Progress. Christopher Kojm moderates; Harry Harding Auditorium, Rm 213 of the Elliott School, open to the public. I"m not speaking at this one, but I"ll be in the audience - should be extremely interesting.

After that, I"ll be at MESA in Montreal, where I hope to see many of my friends and readers - I shouldn"t be that hard to find.
