Egyptian Blogger Karim Amer- jailed against the backstage of insulting  Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and showing contempt to religions- is currently tortured in Burj Al-Arab prison at orders and under supervision of police officers at Burj Al-Arab prison. He is in solitary jail and he was repeatedly beaten, breaking one of his teeth, while marking the first anniversary of Karim Amer”s jail.

The Arab network for human rights said that Karim Amer informed his lawyers in the Arab network and Hesham Mubarak centre that he was tortured n the prison in the ward by a prisoner and the ward guard. This was at orders of a police officer in the prison, officer Medhat Samir, after Karim Amer discovered a corruption case in the prison. His reward was a tough punishment and torture, breaking one of his teeth and injuring him in separate parts across his body. He was even denied the right to submit a complaint against officer Medhat Samir and was also denied the right to document these injuries in a medical report.

The Arab network for human rights and Hesham Mubarak centre for legal aid called on the attorney general to investigate into the incident of torturing the Egyptian Karim Amer. They said in their complaint to the attorney general that the assault against Karim Amer included the following :
He was beaten n the ward in which he is held- ward 22, by a prisoner and the ward guard. This was at orders of a police officer in the prison, officer Medhat Samir, leading to breaking one of his teeth and having bruises and injuries in separate parts across his body
He was then moved to the disciplinary cell where he was shackled from his hands and feet from the back, then they continued beating him again, causing more injuries.

Then, they brought another prisoner and removed all his clothes and beat him in front of prisoner Abdul Karim Solaiman. After that, they threatened him of facing the same punishment if he intervened in anything out of his interest.
Both human rights organizations called for holding an immediate investigation into Karim Amer”s complaint, as his complaint constitutes a torture crime according to articles 126, 127, 129, in the penal code. Also, this incident is in contravention to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and other anti-torture conventions in which Egypt is a signatory.
The Arab network for human rights said that Karim Amer faces a systematic torture and maltreatment in Burj Al-Arab prison at the hands of the prison officers, since he was jailed, a year ago. He told his lawyers that the maltreatment is always accompanied by phrases like “until it you retreat from your ideas”, putting his life at the stake and doubling the punishment he is facing. Both human rights organizations called for moving him to a prison in which his status as a human being is respected and his rights as a prisoner are retained.
