As a continuation of the repression and violence policy practiced by the Egyptian authorities against public freedoms represented in whoever opposes the policies of the Egyptian regime, State Security Forces have kidnapped a large number of Kefaya members including Professor Abdul-Wahhab Al-Messiry, the general coordinator of Kifaya and one of the co-founders of Al-Wasat party.

The detention took place today ( Thursday Jan., 17, 2007 ) in a sit-in refusing the price inflation the Egyptian society faces. The security forces kidnapped them from the sit-inn and transferred them to a distant area away from the place of the sit-inn.

A number of the kidnapped members, including Al-Messiry, were left after sometime in the desert of New Cairo , while others have been transferred to the State Security Prosecutor.

Today’s sit-inn has included a number of political and civil society representatives from Kefaya Movement, Al-Karama party, Citicens against high prices movement, and others.

It is noteworthy that Jeorge Ishac, the former general coordinator of Kifaya, has previously stated that he was threatened by some Security forces while organizing for the sit-in.
