Egyptian Doctors Stage Demonstration, Press for Demands

Tens of Egyptian doctors staged on Monday Feb. 25, a demonstration in front of the People”s Assembly led by Dr. Hamdi Al Sayed, the Doctors” Syndicate head and chairman of the health committee in the People”s Assembly. They called on government to approve the special cadre (financial degree)  bill for doctors. They stressed that they will maintain their pressures till government addresses their demands .

Dr. Hamdi Al Sayed revealed that the doctors” negotiations haven”t led to any solution for the problem. He said also that the meeting of the Doctors” Syndicate delegation with the Health Minister was due to the doctors pressures, confirming that the Doctors” Syndicate will never fail the doctors who authorized it to speak on their behalf and defend their rights in the last general assembly.

The chairman of the health committee pointed out that the committee submitted interpellations, urgent statements and written questions supporting the doctors, their union and demands.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Imam, a member of the board of the Doctors” Syndicate said that such measures are in line with the decisions of the extraordinary general assembly. The decisions include demonstrating in front of the People”s Assembly every 15 days to press for addressing their demand of a special cadre that helps doctors lead a decent life.

He expressed his hope that they reach a suitable solution for the problem in the meeting that will be held between the board of the Doctors” Syndicate and the deputy Health Minister next Wednesday to showcase the decisions of the general assembly and to discuss the doctors demands. He also pointed out that they will not withdraw any of their demands and will never yield to any pressure and will maintain their activities until they attain their legitimate rights.

It is worth mentioning that the general assembly of the Egyptian Doctors” syndicate decided to stage three vigils in front of the People”s Assembly to snowball their demands in order to have the special cadre for doctors approved before they lead a partial strike scheduled to be held next March 15.
