Court Refuses to Release Local Elections Detainees

Court Refuses to Release Local Elections Detainees

Court of First Instance at Kafr El-Sheikh has refused Wednesday the appeal filed by the lawyers of  Gamal Abdul-Fattah (MB leading figure at the governorate) and decided to extend his detention for another 15 days in compliance with the prosecution decision in case no. 997 of 2008 (Supreme State Security), Ikhwanweb reporters said.

Although both of them were detained due to local elections, the State Security Prosecution has only decided to release Mohamed Al-Iraqi, MB from Al-Mansourah city.

Gamal was detained in the run-up to the local elections. Though acquitted by the prosecution, Ministry of Interior has ordered him detained, after which the lawyer filed a complaint to the Ministry of Interior to release him.

After being released in June 25, he was enlisted in another case to be imprisoned for another 15 days. He has been detained for almost three months.

There has been an intensive round-up campaign during the local elections after denying the candidates of the MB from running for the elections.
