Egypt: Security Authorities Confiscate Al Dostour Newspaper from Stores

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (anhri.net) said Monday that security agencies had confiscated Al Dostour independent newspaper from stores following the newspaper publicity of story that involves an Egyptian businessman association with the murder of Suzanne Tamim, the well known Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim in Dubai the Emirati city.

The seizure of the newspaper from markets by the security is a crime that requires investigation, which is not justifiable by rumors about a decision of the Prosecutor General to ban publishing. Where a newspaper cannot be confiscated in a state that respect the press freedom and right to circulate information, without notifying the concerned newspaper in advance of such a judicial decision that prohibits its publicity.

The Arabic Network has inquired about any resolution that prohibits printing Al Dostour and Al Badil newspapers, where the editor in chief of Al Dostor newspaper “Ibrahim Issa” as well as the editorial manager of Al Badil “Khalid Al Balshi” had both denied receiving any official decision of publish ban or even a notification of such decision.

“Denial of two daily newspapers receiving any decree that bans publishing their newspapers, bring to mind- once again- the question about the right to circulate information and the necessity of issuing a law that obligate the government as well as the newspapers to constant bases instead of leaving the matters at the security apparatus’s disposal,” said the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
