Arresting a one and a half years old baby and keeping him in custody for five hours is a “brutal and insane” decision by the Interior Ministry, Hossam Haddad from Hisham Mubarak Law Center told Ikhwanweb Tuesday.

Al Masry Al Youm daily newspaper reported on Tuesday that a baby boy has been kept in custody in a police headquarters in the Nile Delta governorate of Al Dakahlia. The incident took place when police officier Mohamed Safwat raided the house of Ashraf Ashour in Dimshelt village intending to arrest the uncle of the baby. When the Safwat and his fellow police officers did not find the uncle, they forcefully took the baby to the police headquarters, according to the narration of the infant’s father.

After the parents filed a complaint against the officer who took the child, they found a state security officer knocking at their door with the baby in his hands after five hours in custody.

“We are used to a plenty of violations by the Interior Ministry officials,, including the arrest of women, elderly men, or 15 years old boys. But arresting a one and half year old infant is absolutely insane,” Lawyer Hossam Haddad told Ikhwanweb.
