MB Condemns Fierce Attack on House of Labor, Union Services

Dr. Mohamed Habib, the first deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, expressed his full solidarity with the house of union and labor services and its right to use all peaceful means to get its rights .
 
Habib confirmed in a statement to Ikhwanweb that shutting down the two branches of the house of labor and union services in El-Mahalla El-Kubra and Nag Hamadi is a part of a systematic attacks against civil society organizations; this was clarified in the press statements of the Minister of Social Solidarity who admitted that security services intervene in the work of the non-governmental organizations .
 
Habib pointed out that the executive authorities have recently taken a number of arbitrary administrative procedures against a number of organizations, aiming at obstructing their activities to the extent of closing headquarters of the house of union and labor services in Nag Hamadi and Al-Mahalla, a flagrant violation to freedom of organization and speech.
 
Habib demanded the Egyptian government to cancel the decision of shutting down this house and to stop attacks against Egyptian civil society institutions .
 
It is worth mentioning that the house of the union and labor services has recently exercised a group of activities, including supporting Egyptian workers in their demands of receiving fair work relationships through applying the international agreements to which the Egyptian government is a signatory.
 
Kamal Abbas, the general coordinator of the house, said during last Sunday demonstration in front of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in front of parliamentarians, party members and civil activists:” The decision of shutting the house comes after 17 years of work and while the government promised that the constitutional amendments will expand the freedom of organization.
Abbas declared that the house was serving the workers, since it was established in 1990, and showing them their rights prescribed by the Egyptian law and international treaties; he added that the security authorities closed the house as a punishment for the peaceful labor protests that Egypt has recently witnessed.
