Lawyers Protest against Receivership

Mohamed Toson, former member of Bar Syndicate Council and member of Islamic Sharia committee, called in an exclusive statement to Ikhwan Web all lawyers to an event, to let them express their condemnation toward the resolution to stop the elections through “the day of anger” event, which will be held by the Islamic Sharia Committee at the syndicate Monday, November 10, so as to recover their syndicate which is under receivership. He stated that the committee will issue a statement in the coming days calling lawyers to participate in the event. He also asserted that they are going to escalate the matter to get their own syndicate back.


Mohsin Eid, media advisor of Talaat Al Sadat, completely denied to Ikhwan Web the approval of Sadat to remain the receivership over the syndicate –after it was reported. He added that Sadat had prepared a new law for the syndicate collaborating with 35 members of the People Assembly (PA) and lawyers with various directions and it will be presented within the coming days.


A number of lawyers, called themselves “Lawyers for Syndicate”, called for a sit-in before South Cairo Court building Tuesday, November 4, to protest the annulment of elections.


Sarah Ibrahim, spokeswoman of the movement, said in a press statement published Sunday, November 2, that the sit-in is to include collecting signatures for a demand to be submitted to the president of the court of South Cairo, asking him to issue a resolution determines the date of the nomination doors opening.
