Misdemeanors Court of Tahta City in Suhag governorate decided on Sunday to imprison in absentia both Lieutenant Mohamed Sadawi and soldier Ahmad Abdul Aal for three years, with LE 2000 bail and LE 10000 civil compensation, on charges of second-degree murder of 48-year-old Egyptian Eid Ahmad Tayee by their car.

This incident took place in March 2008 when a police force headed by Lieutenant Mohamed Sadawi went to arrest the victim’s brother under permission from the general prosecution to investigate him.

When the victim tried to prevent them from arresting his brother and clung to the police car, the officer ordered the driver to hurry rashly and therefore ran over the man leading to his death after trailing him along on the ground for nearly 500 meters.

The officer and his soldier were charged with manslaughter and referred to Misdemeanors Court that ordered them imprisoned for three years.
