The barbaric attacks on luxury hotels, train station and eateries in the financial capital of India- Mumbai which claimed innocent lives on 26 – 27 November is an attack on our nation. It is a crises situation in our country and we all need to stand bravely united, said Maulana Badruddin Ajmal in a his press statement today. Maulana Ajmal, president of Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) and Markazul Ma"arif (NGO) expressed his anguish over the cowardice terror attacks and cautioned all political parties to restrain from blame-game politics at least till all the facts about the attacks are on the table. He offered his sincere condolence to all the families whose members were victims of the attacks and said "nation would ever remain grateful for the heroic sacrifice of the three very senior Mumbai IPS officers" who lost their lives during combat operation. He said it is still not clear who the actual perpetrators are and what could have been their motives thus media and investigating agencies must not hurry to the conclusion. The terrorists whosoever they may be, they simply are our enemy and the nation demand severe punishment for their crimes, he said. Maulana Ajmal requested the Mumbaikers to help maintain calm, law and order situation and he specially urged the youths to offer blood to the victims if needed. -------------------------------------------------- PRESS RELEASE Contact person: Shaik Ubaid Tel:516-567-0783 E-Mail:[email protected] New York - November 26, 2008 - Prominent Indian-American leaders condemn the coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. We, the undersigned Indian American activists and representatives, condemn the cowardly attacks uequivocally as crimes against humanity. According to media reports gunmen have carried out a series of coordinated attacks across the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay), killing more than 100 people and injuring around 300 more. At least seven high-profile locations were hit in India"s financial capital, including two luxury hotels where dozens of hostages are being held. A previously unknown group calling itself Deccan Mujahideen has claimed the responsibility for the attack. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of these heinous attacks. Our thoughts and prayers are with the hostages especially those who were guests of India and were visiting from the US and UK. We stand in solidarity with the family of Anti Terrorism Squad Chief Hemant Karkare who was courageously heading the inquiry against the recent Malegaon bomb blasts in which Hindu supremacists including military officers and some religious leaders were implicated. We appeal to all Indians to stay united and foil the evil designs of the terrorists whose main objective is to fan the flames of discord and hatred. We urge the political parties not to exploit these terrorist acts for political purposes. We are alarmed over the sophistication and military level planning seen in these coordinated attacks and on the failure of the intelligence agencies in preventing such a huge and widespread attack. We demand that the federal and state governments bring the perpetrators of these actions to justice swiftly.
