3 Alexandria Muslim Brothers Rounded Up

Egyptian State Security Police on Saturday Feb, 14th, 2009, arrested three Muslim Brotherhood members affiliated to the group”s Alexandria office. The detainees- Magdi Al Zawawi, Zakariya Ali and Alaa Al Shennawi- were arrested while they were in a visit in Cairo.

For his part, Khalaf Bayyoumi, the lawyer of the detainees, said in statements to Ikhwanweb, that the arrest of the three in Cairo has no legal foundation as there is no arrest warrant and there is nothing to justify their arrest, and they weren”t notified of the reasons behind this action.

The detainees haven”t faced any charges yet and they will appear before the prosecution on Sunday. The State Security Investigations were ordered to hold investigations about them while lawyer Khalaf denied that their detention is linked to Gaza demonstrations.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian security services maintain cracking down on the Muslim Brotherhood group and its members. Some 7000 Brotherhood members have been rounded up during Gaza demonstrations. Of them, arrest warrants were issued against 1700.
